Our lab has a variety of thermal-fluid facilities to conduct both fundamental and component-level research. The tabs below give an overview of some of our facilities and activities.
We have developed a custom annular two-phase flow facility with a variety of non-intrusive measurement methods to quantify things like film thickness, disturbance wave properties, and bubble frequency. We have used this facility to gain a better understanding of annular two-phase flows and the transition to dryout.
Our steam injection facility injects high pressure steam through a small-diameter nozzle into a water stream. In this facility we can visualize the condensation process and measure the acoustics for a range of process variables. Our goal with this experimental work is to make the flow more stable and reduce the noise level of steam injection heat exchangers.
