Payton defended his Masters Thesis

Payton successfully presented his Masters thesis titled “A Performance and Model Complexity Study of a Phase Change Material Thermal Energy Storage Heat Exchanger”. Congratulations Payton!  He will continue working on building HVAC systems work as he moves on to his Ph.D. work.

Welcomed Tyler and Sage to the group!

Tyler Lee and Sage Slater recently joined our group as MS research students.  Tyler will be developing new modeling methods for annular two phase flows, and Sage will be exploring how surface properties impact the flow of thin liquid films.  Welcome Sage and Tyler!

Mahvi awarded funds to advance cold-climate heat pumps

Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor Allison Mahvi was recently selected for a $2M award from the Department of Energy to develop a more sustainable heat pump that can replace existing, less efficient boilers in older buildings.  Mahvi is collaborating with UW-Madison colleagues Mike Wagner and Morgan Edwards (Public Affairs), Trane, Slipstream, and the National Renewable Energy …

Naleah Boys awarded research fellowship

Naleah was awarded the Faustin Prinz Undergraduate Research Fellowship.  The fellowship supports undergraduate Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics students who want to develop a research project with ME or EM faculty, get access to cutting-edge laboratory equipment, and work closely with a faculty project advisor. Up to two fellowships are awarded each semester. Naleah proposed …

Welcomed Jack to the group!

We are excited to welcome our newest member, Jack Prout, to the group! Jack is a Masters student in Mechanical Engineering. He received her BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wisconsin in 2024. His research will focus on leveraging natural convection in PCM/metal composites to improve the performance of thermal storage materials. You can …

Eli Gaeta awarded best poster

Eli was awarded the best student poster at the American Society of Thermal Fluid Engineers (ASTFE) 2024 Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference in Corvallis, Oregon.  Congratulations Eli!

Welcome Naleah and Megan to the group!

We are excited to welcome our newest members, Naleah Boys and Megan Beyers, to the group! Naleah is a Sophomore in Mechanical Engineering at UW-Madison. Her research will focus on developing a new experimental capability to measure thermal conductivity and contact resistances. Megan is a Senior in Mechanical Engineering at UW-Madison. Her research will focus …
